Into the Woods

Jean Paul Gaultier forest fantasia

Flee the urban routine and delve into the exquisite calm and enchantment of the woods, with Jean Paul Gaultier’s Fall Winter 2016-2017 haute couture collection. The latest designs of the French fashion’s “enfant terrible” accentuate his glamorous creativity and celebrate nature’s splendor. Inspired from the forest, Gaultier’s attires are distinguished by their earth tone colors and complemented with intricate accessories and bold hair designs.

Below on the left, the satin high-collar, long-sleeves dress reproduces a natural landscape. Transparent and loose, it is contrasted with a long necklace made of wood logs accessories.

On the right, the same shades of green, orange and white are beautifully intertwined on the bustier and short jacket. A long tunic in golden Swarovski sequins and pearls cascades above the ensemble.

The outfit below manages to elegantly encompass various fabrics, a daring, asymmetric bodice cut and different shades of wood brown – more specifically, Bordeaux and Bourgogne colors. The circular feather crown creates a pea-cock resemblance, while the folding shape of the jersey fabric on the model’s chest reminds us of a tree trunk.

The folding and draping are once again featured in the one-shoulder dress on the right. The ebony color is beautifully mixed with oblique lines, which are carefully colored with a nature autumnal palette.

The below look is head-turning due to its over-sized, one of a kind back-pack with its fox pelt and glittering sequins to its dangling strings and leaves. As for the crépon, green-grey dress, it has a feminine cut and shiny appealing sequins.

This strapless dress with its rust and green texture brings to our minds a whirlwind of autumn leaves. It is complemented with interesting accessories: Swarovski pearls at the chest, a shiny orange necklace, another light blue one and some autumn leaves to adorn the hair and earrings.

Upon a first look at this attire, you will be dazzled by the lively orange colored fur vest. However, when further contemplating it, you will also undoubtedly appreciate its satin fabric, infinitely embroidered colorful Swarovski sequins and its matching satin pants underneath its tunic long piece.

Using a light tree pattern variation of it, Gaultier creates through this tunic strapless dress the illusion of a tree. The strict column form is softened by dangling leaves, hanging on the corset extensions that turn into “tree branchs”.

Gaultier transforms here what would have been a regular organza one-shoulder dress into what resembles a unique giant anemone flower, by using verdant green lace, tulle trim and another circular head crown.

The dress below is dreamy and daring at the same time, due to the contrast between the flesh colored pleated satin on the one hand and the several sophisticated folds, leather gloves, leaves crown and bold accessories on the other.

The beautiful details of this outfit make it a remarkable piece, from head to toe! A fire-like orange and bright green accentuate the beautiful crochet and guipure. The sequin cardigan adds a shining, lively touch, while the fox pelt a fierce one.

A perfectly “wooden” piece may be what best describes the satin dress on the left. Meticulously designed geometric shapes make the tight upper part resemble a marquetry piece, while other symmetric vertical lines freely flow on the lower part.

The wooden pattern is reintroduced in the varnished leather bodice of the second dress, and is daringly paired with a black and brown feathery skirt.
